IMDb says it was directed by Franco Zeffirelli, which is what i thought too, so I'm gonna change it to that. --195.7.55.146 12:31, 15 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Seperation

[edit]

This article should be split in two, oner for the 1931 version of "The Champ," and one for the 1979 version. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.218.198.220 (talkcontribs) 03:37, 26 November 2006

A similar film

[edit]

I remember having once seen a very similar film from the fifties. There the father was a clown and a drinker, but the rest of the plot is very much the same. Does anyone know the name of that movie?80.141.154.28 (talk) 18:52, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

– This 1931 film was mentioned to me in another discussion. Stats of the 1979 film are close to or higher than of this 1931 film. Even when the 1931 film received accolades (Oscars, praise, etc.), which would help it meet long-term significance criterion, I'm not convinced that readers are looking for the very old 1931 film. In other words, either long-term significance and usage criteria do not overcome each other, or usage overcomes the other. George Ho (talk) 19:20, 14 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
