The gallery is, to be polite, a bit excessive. Wikipedia is not a photo hosting site; images are here only to enhance an educational understanding of the subject. As such, I'm cutting out at least half of them. If anyone thinks others should be cut, or that one I cut was so necessary, then feel free to alter the final set. Qwyrxian (talk) 00:19, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I changed my mind:I'm removing all of them. This article already has plenty of pictures. Again, if someone thinks that replacing some of the left/right margin pictures would be good, then feel free to do so. See WP:IG for our policy on image galleries, which is, basically, don't do it unless necessary (and I don't see it as necessary here--I feel like the images are being used as more of a travel brochure than an encyclopedic article). Malls and famous past and current residents

[edit]

Malls?? Are you people serious about adding such a section? I have never seen any such section over any other similar article.I feel it's making article unnecessarily lengthy.Same is with 'famous past and current residents section. If no one has any problem, then i will make these section short and move much of their content to other page.

Maverick.Mohit (talk) 09:08, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have boldly removed the mall section, because you're right--it simply is not a part of most city articles. Of course, if there were an important mall there, or important shopping districts, they could be mentioned in a relevant section (but not a table); see, for example, the Edmonton#Retail section of Edmonton (which is a Good article.
The list of people, however, is pretty common for city articles. The key, though, is that it must be verified that these people live/lived in Patna, by a reliable source. That source doesn't need to be in this article--being in the person's article is fine. However, if there is no verification that the person ever lived in Patna, then the entry must be removed, per WP:NLIST. I don't have the time/interest at the moment to go through each of those entries, but you are welcome to do so. Additionally, if we (interested editors here) want, we can establish more strict rules than just "was a resident"; some localities, for instance, say that a person either has to live their currently or have lived there for a substantial period of their life. Personally, since that type of info is rarely available, I don't feel the need to be so limiting, but it is a possibility. Qwyrxian (talk) 00:18, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Education Standard

[edit]

According to Indian Education Quality Standard Committee(IEQSC), Patna's education standards are on the peak of the list of best educational places in India. Highest Percentage of students passing competitive exams every year belong to Bihar.
In the last year
1800 students had qualified the IIT-JEE Exam which was 26% of the total students qualified all over India.
321 candidates were selected in UPSC Exam which was the 37% of total students qualified all over India. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aliamjad9283 (talkcontribs) 19:53, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Patna as a Dutch Trading center

[edit]

There is something missing that Patna was a Dutch trading center during Mughal Period before the arrival of British in Patna.Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page).MRINAL813 (talk) 06:08, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mistake in climate date?

[edit]

It seems hard to believe that the daily mean in December is 34.7 °C. Really? I haven't edited climate data before and I don't fully understand the way that it's sourced, so maybe somebody more knowledgeable can help out. Saibod (talk) 14:09, 6 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Main Picture Changed

[edit]

The main photo of the page seems changed since last few days without any edit made for the same, also it is showing two different pictures in mobile version and desktop version of the page. Mobile version is showing the old better picture while desktop version is showing just an extended part of the previous collage. People knowing the reasons may fix it. A new better picture may also be added. PratyushSinha101 (talk) 18:40, 21 July 2016 (UTC)PratyushSinha101[reply]

Now fixed, thanks to the person who fixed it. Or maybe it was a site bug. PratyushSinha101 (talk) 19:22, 25 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Why does the "References" and "External links" section of the article contain messages which discourage addition of links to the article? There are a lot of wikipedia articles even in the good and featured article category which contain more references than this article. When all is good in those articles why such a message in this article? I want to add some more content to the article and in the process will have to add more references and remove those messages if everybody is ok with it. Area and population values

[edit]

Of course such values can (and should) be updated regularly. But please provide an independent reliable source for new stats, and do not add speculative values or personal research. Also, WP:CRYSTALBALL applies for future plans, and such plans are better covered in the article's main text - the infobox has no room for necessary context and nuance of complex details. Just a few points for clarification, the removed (questionable) values can be found in the article history if anyone interested wants to work on improving these aspects. GA Review

[edit]
This review is transcluded from Talk:Patna/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.

Reviewer: DiplomatTesterMan (talk · contribs) 04:55, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I will be taking up this review. I will shortly provide a preliminary review. DTM (talk) 04:55, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ItsSkV08, I am starting the review from the infobox:
Infobox
  • The montage is ok. However images used such as the Stupa of Buddha Smriti Park, which is quite dark, could be replaced with much better images which are already available at Buddha Smriti Park. Even if the darkness of the photograph is purposely part of the photo, it doesn't help people who are seeing the stupa for the first time. Also, to make it easier to edit the montage, why not use Template:Multiple image or Template:Photo montage? I won't specify which images should be used as that is an editorial decision.
  • Area label: The reference used does not say that the "City Area" is 250. It says: "the city would be spread over 1,167 sq. km against the existing 250 sq km. Over 600 sq. km area has been marked as urban area" ref. Accordingly the sub-labels can be updated. Further, the reference currently used is about the master plan still in the process of being approved. Ideally a reference of the approved master plan would be better, such as 1. This document "PATNA MASTER PLAN 2031" provides detailed figures.
  • Language label: The reference used is missing a page number. Further, the reference provides official language for the state of Bihar and not Patna. Are we to assume that the official state languages becomes the official languages of cities within the state?
  • The reference used for the Regional language label requires subscription. The citation should mention this.
  • The reference used for the Literacy states literacy as 82.73 % while the article currently has 83.37%.
  • The sex ratio also differs from the reference used.

I will pause here for your comments. After the infobox has been addressed, I will start the review of other sections. The intro/lede will be reviewed simultaneously and then again right at the end. DTM (talk) 06:57, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The nominator has not been able to find time to work on this first set of review comments. Further the nominator has agreed on the closure. While I have not completed the entire review as per the response, the article isn't far from a GA tag. I will have to fail this for now. DTM (talk) 09:33, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding GAN

[edit]

DiplomatTesterMan Do whatever changes you want to make in this article, otherwise when I get time, I will be able to do it right, thanks– ItsSkV08 (talk) 14:25, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ItsSkV08, as the GA reviewer it is best that I do not make changes to the article just now. You nominated this article for GA. I am assuming by your comment above that you do not wish to continue with the review? Should I give you a few more days to make the changes after which we can continue which other sections; or should I close the review? DTM (talk) 01:23, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
DiplomatTesterMan ok, please give me time for four days... I will work on this article ASAP... Thanks – ItsSkV08 (talk) 01:55, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
DiplomatTesterMan you should close the review, recently i have no time to fix this article, thanks.. – ItsSkV08 (talk) 13:39, 29 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Alright. DTM (talk) 09:20, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you do find time later on, this article isn't far from being a GA. DTM (talk) 09:27, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

An IP editor made two changes to the weather box on 20 March.

  • The first change added monthly "avg record high C" and "avg record low C". The data show in the table as "Mean maximum °C" and "Mean minimum °C". The IP editor did not say what the source was for the 26 numbers he/she added.
  • The second change altered the monthly UV figures, and changed the "source" and "source2" fields. The positive aspect of this was that it said what source the IP editor thought they were using. There were negative aspects of this: (1) it messed up sourcing for the rest of the table, (2) the numbers they added were only approximately the values given by the source they said they were using.

I have reverted to the version of the weather box of 10:30, 10 March 2024 (UTC).

If we were to use the IP editor's source for UV, we should correctly label the data, and give the data in the sourceuvindex.io/patna (you can get the data from the chart in the source by hovering the cursor over each point. When I looked the "Downlaod [sic] Patna historical UV index chart PDF of 2023", "... 2022" and "... 2021" links did not work.-- Toddy1 (talk) 07:45, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
