Sidebar Dates
[edit]Hey guys,
I've updated the dates for the side bar to show that the show ended in 2008. Therefore, shows or hosts carrying over from the 2001-2008 run should be accredited for working on the show like this; ????-2008; 2012- Present.
Yes the Big Brother that is returning is essentially the same show, hence why the upcoming season is the ninth season and not the first season; but the time Big Brother was off air was quite significant. It would be stupid to say Big Brother has run from 2001- present, because four out of those eleven years it wasn't on air for.
The break must be acknowledged. Thanks. Bbmaniac (talk) 06:28, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

- Big Brother (Australian TV series) → Big Brother (Australian TV program)
- List of Big Brother (Australian TV series) shows → List of Big Brother (Australian TV program) shows
- Celebrity Big Brother (Australian TV series) → Celebrity Big Brother (Australian TV program)
– Per WP:NCTV#Non-series television: "Each episode of an on-going show usually is self-contained with little connection to other episodes, other than title, format, hosts, and other on-air personalities". It does not qualify as a "Series television" because it doesn't "feature recurring settings or characters, or express a unifying narrative theme" as it is not a scripted show. - Oppose The general Big Brother highlights programs (known as Daily Shows during the initial Network Ten run) do often follow certain story arcs, especially in the case of tasks and challenges that span over multiple days in a week. As most episodes take place in a day or two, the contestants ("Housemates") sometimes do reference things that happened on previous episodes. Also each episode in a particular season is set in a single location (the Big Brother House) and features the same set of Housemates. You could argue that the Seven incarnation of Big Brother is more self-contained than ever, especially since there is now an eviction cycle in every episode, rather than spanning a whole week of episodes, but there are still instances where the Housemates discuss the events of the previous episode, albeit mostly in the intro to an episode. - I'm unable to know that but the very first sentence reads: "Big Brother is an Australian reality game show". WP:NCTV says "For game shows, use (game show)". Despite Big Brother being truly a game show, I did not propose it here (nor at Talk:Big Brother (Belgian TV series)) because it would be more controversial than the neutral "program". (CC) Tbhotch™ 01:46, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
- Then perhaps the label "game show" in the lead is incorrect. I do note that Big Brother (British TV series) just calls it a

. Big Brother isn't a game show in the same sense as like The Price is Right or Wheel of Fortune. Reader781 (talk) 02:04, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

- Oppose per Reader781 argument above. In addition, "program" is the correct spelling in Australian English. 36.77.74.149 (talk) 23:57, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
- Adjusted. Thanks. (CC) Tbhotch™ 01:43, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose as fundamental misunderstanding of WP:NCTV. Reality shows like Big Brother certainly are not "self-contained with little connection to other episodes" - the cast is generally consistent from episode to episode and there is a narrative order of presentation. Even non-scripted shows can be episodically presented in a narrative fashion due to editing. WP:NCTV#Series television applies as "made of episodes which may relate part of an unfolding story, feature recurring settings or characters, or express a unifying narrative theme". Check the archives of WT:NCTV for past discussions which resulted in reality competition shows being under "(TV series)". Speedy close. -- Netoholic @ 12:16, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose as per Netoholic's reasoning. Regardless of format used between the different countries the episodes are edited in a way to follow storylines naturally unfolding inside the House of each season. Some countries do use a season/series long "theme" that plays into the storyline in the form of rooms, tasks/competitions, etc. Most regional variants also have the interconnected theme from season to season of "expect the unexpected" as Big Brother "can change the rules at any time." A more traditional game show has different contestants with each episode and stick to a strict set of rules. Alucard 16❯❯❯ chat? 17:20, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose per Netoholic and my argument at the Belgian RM discussion. 力 (power~enwiki, π, ν) 16:52, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
Runner-up Housemates
[edit]Just a note that I have reverted a recent edit that suggested that seasons 8 through 11 all had dual runner-ups. While all these seasons did feature the three housemates on the finale episodes, in each case the housemate that I removed was specifically evicted as 3rd place. In the case of Season 12 the winner was announced with all three Housemates on stage and was never clarified who placed 2nd and 3rd according to the votes, so therefore in my opinion the best we can do with the information we have is to call both Daniel & Sophie co-runners up as equal 2nd and 3rd.--Reader781 (talk) 02:25, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
- That's a valid edit. It's a similar case in the American version (or at least most seasons anyways), where 3 HouseGuests make it to finale night but one is evicted before the vote for the winner takes place therefore invalidating as a potential runner-up. Same thing occurred in the American Celebrity version where five HouseGuests made it to finale night but only two remained for the final vote. TheDoctorWho (talk) 04:34, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
