I can't find a complete list of Firkin pubs, neither am I sure if the US and Canadian company is the same as the British one. Anyone who can provide either of these details please do amend the article. -- Francs2000 | Talk [[]] 18:37, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I know of a Fox and Firkin pub in Vancouver, Canada, but I couldn't say whether it belongs to this chain or not. Jimp 6Jul05

There were about 189 pubs in the UK with the last one opened being the Festival & Firkin in Cheltenham — Preceding unsigned comment added by Freq-ky 194 (talkcontribs) 11:00, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This page needs serious revision

[edit]

As far as I know, all Firkin pubs have now been closed. Someone needs to clear this article up.

I've updated the article with the current names and brands (at least, the ones I can find) along with some additional info. It seems there are a few pubs which still have the Firkin branding, although the Firkin chain itself has been defunct since 2001. AdorableRuffian 22:08, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There was a Felix and Firkin in Barnet

[edit]

There was a Felix and Firkin in Barnet. Can't edit the page myself, but maybe someone else could add this to the list. Think it is call The Lion now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.177.99.147 (talk) 18:52, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There was also a 'Fitz and Firkin'

[edit]

Just going through some old junk and came accross a load of 'Firkin' beer mats (each pub had their own - which is something else that could be included with the article). One which doesn't appear on the current list is 'Fitz & Firkin', 240 Great Portland Street, London W1N 5HF. It may bear inclusion as the mat has a banner printed on it that says 'Our 100th Pub'. (Goodle tells me that 'The Albany' is now at this address.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.170.140.132 (talk) 13:49, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Two more for list

[edit]

Same as above (have beer mats!) for 'Firedrake & Firkin', 39-41 Salisbury Road, Cardiff, South Glamorgan, CF2 4AB and 'Fortress & Firkin' Canalside, Frodsham Street, Chester, Cheshire CH1 3LH.

Another two more

[edit]

'Filligree & Firkin' which was The Old Bears Head in Macclesfield and 'Foxhound & Firkin' in Wrexham. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Freq-ky 194 (talkcontribs) 11:08, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Why defunct

[edit]

I'm surprised they're defunct. From personal experience, they appeared to have a good strong customer base in their time.

What on earth made someone decide to close the brand/chain? I can't be the only person who's puzzled by this, or am I?

It's a bit like the Coca Cola company giving up soft drinks and switching to selling coffee instead. 86.20.236.47 (talk) 18:52, 5 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

They were bought by Punch. Punch's business model is to lease property and sell beer from multinational breweries through a tied lease. Microbreweries reduce the volume of beer they can sell through the tie, and the margins aren't as good. So in your model it's more like Coca Cola buying some pubs and converting them into Coca-Cola bars. It may not be "better" but it's closer to what Coke do already. So it was with Punch. As an aside, I think a number of the ones that went through M&B ended up with Stonegate Pub Company, who later acquired Yates and Slug & Lettuce. 2.97.167.115 (talk) 17:12, 15 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Paris

[edit]

There were definitely a couple of Firkins in Paris in late 1999. A bit of Googling suggests that Allied opened three in 1998 - the Freedom, Financier(e) and ?Friar, if anyone wants to track down what happened to them. 2.97.167.115 (talk) 17:04, 15 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
