I propose that this article be renamed financial regulation and discuss regulation of financial services in general (such as laws, methods, reasons, pros cons, etc.) 3mta3 03:12, 15 Nov 2004 (UTC)

In Preparations for Convergence of International Laws

[edit]

The addition of other sovereign nations fiscal regulations and regulatory bodies where information is available. After all all nations, including North Korea have to have some fiscal base in order to retain their force of law among their peoples. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ElectricLyn2 (talkcontribs) 20:44, 28 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Organization

[edit]

I am reorganizing the info boxes on the right to put "Financial markets" before "Corporate finance". I'm doing this, because the article seems to me to be primarily about financial market regulation, with regulation of corporate finance being only one of five entities regulated. The other four (stock exchanges, money laundering, investments and banks) deal with regulating financial markets.

I am also adding a figure analogous to Figure 10.1 from Reinhart and Rogoff, which very dramatically shows the effectiveness of the Bretton Woods agreement: Except for that 26-year period, banking crises have been a regular feature of national economies and the international financial system. I hope this addition will make this article more interesting to readers, attract more views, and inspire others to write more about the state of research on financial market regulation.
