The featured picture for this day has not yet been chosen.

Please do not add Hitler's birthday to the MainPage. We don't do birthdays unless we don't have enough historic anniversaries to feature. Thanks. -- PFHLai 11:20, 2005 Apr 19 (UTC)

420

[edit]

Why is the 420 (cannabis culture) anniversary omitted from today’s anniversaries? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 216.242.114.115 (talkcontribs) 11:29, 2006 April 20.

'Coz it's not significant enough, and LSD was already featured very recently on April 16. Furthermore, the wikipage needs to be cleaned up -- problem pages will not get featured on MainPage. -- PFHLai 00:38, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Considerable work has been done to the 420 (cannabis culture) article over the past year. Its observance among the counterculture is notable, with many private and public celebrations taking place. Please consider for inclusion. — Hiplibrarianship 06:39, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It seems pretty significant to me, and perhaps celebrated by more people than many holidays listen in selected anniversaries. Since there isn't much competition for space, I'm going to go ahead and add it. Please feel free to modify or revert. However, the recent inclusion of LSD and the alleged poor quality of the article itself are not valid reasons to omit it. I agree with Hiplibrarianship that the article has undergone considerable improvement from last year. Savidan 20:33, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Remove Birthday

[edit]

I am a new user and unable to edit this page, but discovered that filipina singer Regine Velasquez is listed here as having a birthday on April 20 AND April 22. The link to her wiki page suggests the actual birthdate is April 22. Could someone with the proper authority/credentials please remove her from the April 20 page? Thanks.. She isn't listed in this template (which is the only thing that is protected). If you meant somewhere else, then you probably have the capacity to fix that yourself. Savidan 18:00, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

2017 request

[edit]

I have written a new article about Bacatá, the main settlement of the Muisca Confederation, that was conquered by Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada and his heavily reduced troops on this day, 480 years ago. Added the selected anniversary for April 20. Rationale for addition:

  • 480 years ago makes a nice rounded number
  • next to the much better known Aztec Empire, Maya civilization and Inca Empire, the Muisca had the fourth well-developed pre-Columbian civilisation of the New World
  • the first conquest of the Muisca settlements, after a strenuous expedition from Santa Marta up the Eastern Ranges of the Colombian Andes, the heaviest of the four great expeditions by the Spanish conquistadors
  • the most important of the Muisca Confederation settlements, referred to in popular literature as "capital", but that would be an unscientific wording, as there was no central authority in Muisca society
  • article is built new, with references and extensive bibliography, see alsos, main articles and reviewed links
