Recentist and vengeful

[edit]

[1]

Thomas Dale "Tom" DeLay (pronounced /dəˈleɪ/; born April 8, 1947 in Laredo, Texas) is a convicted felon and former member of the U.S. House of Representatives who represented Texas's 22nd congressional district from 1984 until 2006.

So let's get this straight: His being a convicted felon is of greater import than his having served as a Rep for twenty-two years? --87.78.121.149 (talk) 18:47, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I know this is old but how is it that in the entire lead there is only like a single reference to the fact that he is a convicted felon? And considering the amount of attention that went into his fall it is certainly more significant than his day care project which gets just as much space? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.49.147.113 (talk) 01:53, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Repetitious Sections

[edit]

IMO, the section "Dancing with the Stars" and the two following elaborations are at minimum repetitious and possibly contain detail which is not at all necessary or even relevant to the subject's political service and political controversies. Would anyone object to at least boiling this down so that the facts are only mentioned once?

Terry J. Carter (talk) 05:11, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Of the three times these issues were mentioned I removed two. But I agree that the coverage of his participation in that show still seems overblown. Str1977 (talk) 22:54, 25 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Cuban cigar section is factually wrong

[edit]

I read the .pdf which that section links to: http://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/sanctions/Documents/ccigar2.pdf That document, which should control what we write, does not mention that consumption per se is banned overseas. Rather, what's banned is transacting in Cuban goods, even for personal use. Clearly, that document is referring the transacting, not the consumption which it might facilitate. It's an original research conclusion to assert that consumption (smoking) itself is banned. The document does not say that. There is little doubt that an American overseas, if given a free Cuban cigar, can smoke it. However, based on the cited document, it's certainly true that an American can't buy one himself, even if it's for personal consumption. 98.118.62.140 (talk) 03:39, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
