[edit]

I have uploaded a number of photos that don't currently fit into this article. They are in Category:Lake Forest Academy, so feel free to use them to illustrate further content. (They also provide verifiable references for information included in the article). Kane5187 22:29, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Protection

[edit]

I've protected this page for one week. No one seems to be working on actually adding content -- all the recent edits have been vandalism or reversions thereof -- and hopefully the vandals will lose interest once they find they can no longer change it. Bill Ayers

[edit]

This is my full explanation of why these edits [1] [2] are inappropriate:

  • This is an article about Lake Forest Academy, not about Bill Ayers. The list of alumni in this article serves only to increase the reader's understanding of LFA by briefly listing the people who attended here. We don't need a paragraph about all the specifics of Ayers' life and activities
  • The focus in these additions on Ayers' activities in the 1960s is unfair because it selectively emphasizes one part of his life. The lead in his article Bill Ayers can serve as an example in this regard: it mentions his activity in the Weatherman, but also his teaching and theorizing on an even-handed level.
  • Calling him a "terrorist" is a heavily loaded and very disputed term. Again, note that the lead in his article doesn't use that word. We don't have the space in this article to provide much context, so something less incendiary is more desirable. People can click his link if they want to find out more.

I'm fine with mentioning other things about Ayers if need be -- like bring up something to the effect of "controversial relationship with Barack Obama" (hopefully better-worded than that), but this description needs to be short and neutral. As it currently stands -- "former radical activist and current professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago" - it summarizes the two major reasons for his notability in a neutral and accurate way.
