Hi Sudhir, welcome. It's good to see more people contributing from Kerala. I would like to invite you to check out the Malayalam version of Wikipedia. Wikipedia uses Unicode to encode the pages. Unicode support for Malayalam is still a bit limited in most systems. If you are interested in contributing, please leave a message in my Talk page, I would love to give you some pointers. Thanks and keep up the good work. ~Vinod 15 May 2003

The most probable reason why you couldn't see anything on the Malayalam Wikipedia is that you don't have a font which supports Malayalam Unicode range. The best font around is from Thoolika Unicode produced by Supersoft in Thiruvananthapuram. I particularly like the traditional version. This works almost perfectly in Windows 2000 (and XP, I'm told). The script processor (a file called USP10.DLL which ships with Windows has some problems. A newer version is available (unoffcially) from Microsoft which works better (it has some problems whith rendering chillaksharams). In order to contribute you'll need either a software which supports a Malayalam keyboard (the usual keyboard in which the keys are interpreted differently) or use a transliteration software like Varamozhi which uses an intutive scheme to produce Malayalam letters from Malayalam-typed-in-English text. I thinlk it'll take a bit of time before the Unicode support is complete. In Linux, I understand that there has been some effort, but unfortunately the font I mentioned above doesn't work very well. There are other fonts which work in Linux, but they are incomplete. I can give you more information if you are interested. ~Vinod 16 May 2003

Sudhir, thanks a lot for deciding to join the Malayalam Wikipedia effort. Varamozhi doesn't have direct support for Unicode. You need to type in with some non-Unicode font which Varamozhi supports. Note that the Thoolika option in Varamozhi refers to a non-Unicode font of the same name. Then you HAVE to use the "export to UTF8" feature and cut-and-paste into Wikipedia's edit box. Cibu very recently put up a new version of Varamozhi in which the "export of HTML" problem in win95/98 is fixed. I found this comment in Cibu's mail announcing the new version of Varamozhi:

  • It does not crash with win98 and win95 anymore with 'export to HTML'.

Hope this works for you. Do let me know.
PS: Please see your talk page in the Malayalam Wikipedia for some discussion on how we are currently handling the problems with Unicode. Do let me know any ideas/suggestions you have. Thanks. ~Vinod 17 May 2003

Land Reform Ordinance listed at Redirects for discussion

[edit]

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Land Reform Ordinance. Since you had some involvement with the Land Reform Ordinance redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion (if you have not already done so). --Bejnar (talk) 05:08, 20 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
