Light on top

[edit]

Every control tower I've seen (at an active airport) has had a rotating light on top, alternating white and green, but I've read that there are other color combinations that signify different things. Could someone come up with some information about this? Cactus Wren (talk) 09:13, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The airport beacon is not normally located on the tower, which usually does, however, have red flashing collision avoidance lights. 199.125.109.135 (talk) 18:35, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. In my opinion 'Control tower' is used to refer to an air traffic control tower significantly more often than any other sort of control tower - a fact that appears to be borne out by google and google news searches. A hat not (and possibly also a disambiguation page if neccessary) can be used for any other sort of control tower. Dpmuk (talk) 10:24, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support "Control tower" is too ambiguous, and "Air traffic control tower" is much more precise and clear. We shouldn't needlessly use shorter titles, in the same way that we spell out abreviations. YeshuaDavidTalk20:35, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong support, per YeshuaDavid. "Control tower" may generally refer to this, but "air traffic control tower" leaves no room for ambiguity -- 01:48, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
  • Oppose. As per WP:NAME, "control tower" is clearly the most common name, and the policy advises to "avoid over-precision". In its current form, the article doesn't even mention that there are any other types of control towers? Jpatokal (talk) 03:34, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
