Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Phonebooking
Appearance
We read that "Phonebooking refers to the act of attacking a person with phone books. Started by a group of students at the University of Waterloo, the practice has now spread to a number of universities around North America." It has escaped the notice of the New York Times since 1996. This article links to a site that appears to celebrate "phonebooking". (I didn't investigate it far, as boredom overtook me.) Well, phonebooking is either for real, in which case the article might be seen as indirectly advocating violence, or else it's all posed and just for laughs, in which case it's too silly for words. Maybe it's somewhere in between. Does anyone much care? -- Hoary 03:25, 2004 Dec 19 (UTC)
- To clarify, it's a humorous practice. Could you clarify which point under the Deletion Policy you are using to justify the deletion of this article, so I can respond to it more fully? I plan to expand this, but I created it less than 30 minutes ago. I'd appreciate a reasonable amount of time to get more information down. Thanks! -- Revived 03:40, 19 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Let's say "non-notable" for instance. Delete. --fvw* 03:52, 2004 Dec 19 (UTC)
- While that may be your opinion, that is not a valid reason to delete an entry according to the Deletion Policy... - Phonebooking is described as "attacking an unsuspecting victim" with a phone book [1]. As such, it's a form of sucker punch. So doesn't
the author of the articlecomplaining about [the article] being caught unawares by vfd sound like poetic justice? Samaritan 04:34, 19 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- You're implying that I engage in phonebooking. In fact, I do not. -- Revived 04:41, 19 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- I didn't mean it personally, and have edited my comment to reflect what I meant. I'm sorry. Samaritan 04:44, 19 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Yup, no offense intended by me, either. If people like to wave phone books around (and take photos of this), let them. (But deep disappointment. Have north American universities really reverted to the world of Billy Bunter? How about doing something useful, like smashing crony capitalism?) -- Hoary 05:08, 2004 Dec 19 (UTC)

- Delete Non-notable practise. It appears that most of the 264 hits on Google are due to the idea being so stupid that it received some blogging by people who like to note dumb ideas. --LeeHunter 17:59, 19 Dec 2004 (UTC)
