According to [:Category:Substubs]], there are two different Altitude tent articles. To see if I can test to see if there are actually two different articles, I am creating a test page for the first one listed in the Category. gK ¿? 05:59, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Is there a connection between an altitude tent and a Gamow bag? gK ¿? 06:15, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)

After reading the article, I think that an altitude tent is the opposite of a Gamow bag. The altitude tent simulates higher altitude, and the Gamow bag simulates lower altitude. The technical detail of how both are achieved probably differentiate the two. Julius.kusuma 09:26, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I got that the two were essentially the opposite of each other, but the vague description of "The Bubble" on the Gamow page made it sound like it might be something like an Altitude tent. gK ¿? 10:33, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)
GK, I have not used any of these things, but I know that the altitude tent comes in various forms and models. "The Bubble" might well be one of the models. A quick google search yielded this link which suggests that the bubble could well be one of the models. I've heard people refer to the altitude tent but never an altitude bed, but this could be a difference in how different communities refer to the same thing, or different things.  :-). Thanks for pointing this out. Julius.kusuma 12:37, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for finding the link. It looks like it would be a good External link to add to the main article. From your link, it sounds like the "altitude bed" is a hard plastic contraption that lowers the atmospheric pressure (as well as the oxygen content?), so it's something like a hyperbaric chamber in reverse. Any soft tent can't decrease the atmospheric pressure, so it can only simulate the decreased oxygen at higher altitudes (so calling it an "altitude tent" I think is a misnomer, or at least misleading). gK ¿? 20:28, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Health imapcts.

[edit]

I've entered this wikipedia entry because I was looking for information about the health impacts of such a device, but I don't see any. I'm not a wikipedia editor so I don't really know what are the rules and etc but here is a link I found about those impacts: http://www.arniebakercycling.com/pubs/Free/Altitiude%20Tents_How%20High%20the%20Risk%20ABC.pdf

Like I said, I'm not an editor so I won't change the main article, but you guys should... It seems that sleeping in such a device for a regular person (who won't sacrifise his health for an athletic career) is not a very smart idea.
