I deleted opening sentence which identified him as a very successful African-American. It seems he is a very successful person, who happens to be African American, which is relevant in his case in that he founded BET (Black Entertainment Television). Is there a better way to note this without making it about race? dml

I added that he spent most of his childhood in Freeport Illinois, to tie in with my Article on Freeport Illinois, I verified this with a interview I found on the BET website.

At one point, I remember reading that he was considering starting his own airline named D.C. Air (or buying an existing carrier and then rename and remarket it). Can anyone confirm? Quacks Like a Duck 20:57, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Black billionaires

[edit]

One of many black billionaires in the US? There are two, him and Oprah, according to Wikipedia's own article on "Black billionaires." I'm not sure why anyone would care whether or not he happens to be black, but if we're going mention it let's not BS.

Name

[edit]

Isn't he known commonly as Bob Johnson? I meaned he named his team the "Bobcats" after himself, and I've regularly heard him referred to as Bob Johnson. Quadzilla99 13:31, 3 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to add to the first comment. Robert Johnson doesn't just "happen" to be black. He is was born black, into a very respected black family and I believe there is nothing wrong with stating this.

WikiProject class rating

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as stub, and the rating on other projects was brought up to Stub class. BetacommandBot 22:47, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He didn't name the Charlotte Bobcats after himself. If you're in the "business" world you would know that there is usually a board that you have to go in front of. And collectively they came up with the name the Bobcats after the ANIMAL. I compete with his daughter and they are truly one of the nicest most down to earth families I have ever meet. This family is one to look up to and highly respect.

Photograph

[edit]

I propose we find a new photograph for Johnson's biographical page. The current one, while appropriate for inclusion somewhere else on this page, does not seem particularly relevant to the introduction of his biography. Solo photographs do exist. Suggestions? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.146.174.225 (talk) 19:33, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New Photo

[edit]

I replaced the image with a more recent one. While the other photo was a fine one, and included a former President, it is my opinion that an article about an individual is better served by a photo of the individual. It may be appropriate to move the other image to another location in the article, especially if there is relevant text, but I'll leave that to other authors. Should anyone disagree with the decision to swap photos, let's have a discussion to see which one reaches a consensus.--S Philbrick(Talk) 23:12, 9 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

'first black billionaire'

[edit]

Reginald Lewis had a net worth of over a billion, according to Forbes, in 1993. How is Johnson the first? Enigmamsg 19:42, 29 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
