Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent Disruptive Editing. ― Blaze WolfTalkblaze__wolf 01:49, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Lectonar (talk) 07:28, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – IP users are persistently adding unsourced content to this page. Telenovelafan215 (talk) 02:15, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. @Telenovelafan215: if the issue is unsourced content being added then it would help to add sources for what's there, as that entire cast section lacks inline citations. Aoidh (talk) 03:07, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There is a reference for cast members already on the list. It can be found in the production section. The actors being added by IP users were not mentioned in the references already on the page. It is not my responsibility to look for references for the actors IP users are trying to include. Telenovelafan215 (talk) 03:19, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Targeted by Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/PaullyMatthews these past months (since at least March). HistoryofIran (talk) 02:39, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Editors are repeatedly reverting the article regarding recent news. Given that we are already at extended protection, I am requesting full protection so that users and take a break and stop reverting the article repeatedly. If my count is correct, than there have been at least ten reverts in the last two hours by six users. Super Goku V (talk) 04:11, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – No changes to the current protection level are required at this point in time. Frequency of edits doesn't automatically translate into disruption; with all that's going on, it's natural that people want to get the info in. In short: there's no outright vandalism I can see, disruption on the article hasn't risen to a level that would need full protection. If another admin feels the ned to fully protect htis: be my guest. Lectonar (talk) 07:04, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: The facts, such as the trivia and award points, mentioned on this wiki page are used by another film project as a marketing strategy. The production contacted the relevant parties to request providing false information but responses are negative. Therefore, we anticipate a vandalism on this page to make edits from some other parties. Therefore, this page is requested to be protected and only be editable by the creator at least for next 3 months, ideally 6 months. Thank you MalayalamwriterMFI (talk) 06:01, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Who is we? Lectonar (talk) 07:06, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: One IP editor (likely the blocked editor Pedrote112 (talk · contribs)) is continuing to push their belief that a certain statement in the article was added against Wikipedia consensus, for going on 3 years now. For clarification, the statement they object to is: "There is a consensus among economists ..." when they claim on Talk pages that "There is no consensus". There IS a Wikipedia consensus that the statement is well sourced. If necessary, please see the Talk page Talk:Rent control in the United States and my summary of the issue in this edit: [1] Another administrator has protected the Rent regulation article because of this same reason/issue.

    Thanks for your time and effort! ---Avatar317(talk) 06:01, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Pending-changes protected for a period of 1 year, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. IP has been blocked, too. Lectonar (talk) 07:09, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: The facts such as trivia and award points which are mentioned on this Wiki page are used by some other film project's for the marketing. The production contacted relevant parties and advised to not provide false information but the responses are negative. Therefore, we anticipate vandalism in the form of editing the page with false information. In order to avoid such issues, we are requesting this page to be protected for next 3-6 months at least. Happy tp provide any further information if needed MalayalamwriterMFI (talk) 06:07, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. See above, redundant request. Lectonar (talk) 07:07, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – New socks back soon after previous protection ended. Krimuk2.0 (talk) 06:19, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP disruption against multiple editors. — Czello (music) 07:16, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Persistent unreferenced edits from IP users. Hotwiki (talk) 07:26, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Reason: Blocking to-be-accepted AfC draft. C F A 💬 03:29, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@CFA: I reduced it to ECP, just because I'm curious if that's going to work. If it doesn't let me know and I'll remove the protection. ~Anachronist (talk) 03:33, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Yes, that's fine. I just needed to tag it for speedy deletion. C F A 💬 03:35, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    OK, I deleted it. Done. ~Anachronist (talk) 03:37, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This now new article should almost certainly be at minimum, semiprotected (equivalent to that of penis), just to keep the driveby juvenile vandals off it, no? Zinnober9 (talk) 03:59, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Anachronist: would you be willing to decrease the protection of weenis and weenus as well so redirects may be created? Mbdfar (talk) 04:26, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Extended confirmed protected For both. Lectonar (talk) 07:12, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
