There is a proposal to create a precedent that names are not encyclopedic. Articles about names regularly show up on various deletion pages and are summarily deleted. Perhaps - since you've been working on an article about a name, you hold a different opinion that you'd like to express. History

[edit]

The history section of this page is very vague/ambiguous. It seems to be a bad translation of a Chinese source. For example, the statement "The initial surname Chen was from Gui" can have multiple interpretations due to the unspecific nature of the word "from". Does this imply that the name Chen is a derivative of the name Gui? What does it imply? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.134.239.30 (talk) 00:03, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Chin

[edit]

陳 is pronounced as Jin (진) in Korean, and probably in some certain languages of Chinese. Perhaps that answers why some transcribe it as Chin.

It's like that in Korean, so it must be as well in Chinese, so people write "Chin". Your argument doesn't make sense. --92.75.209.207 (talk) 18:17, 12 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The translation 'Tan' is also very commonly used in Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Brunei and not just Singapore —Preceding unsigned comment added by Paganfarmer (talkcontribs) 13:49, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Chen (surname). Please take a moment to review my edit. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:

Same romanization can use for the Hebrew word for beauty,

חן

—with different pronunciation. A common first name.
