Provide a cite for the claim that Handal sought closer ties with North Korea, please. It seems odd to me that he would have a particular attachment to improving relations with an impoverished pariah northeast Asian country. Everyking 22:11, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

"Seventy-three years of age, a former guerrilla chieftain, and an unreconstructed Communist, Handal ran a campaign that antagonized and frightened many Salvadorans, not all of them by any means wealthy or privileged. His rhetoric was strident and apocalyptic and his program far out of the mainstream. Specifically, he made it clear that if elected he would deliberately distance the country from the United States and draw closer to Cuba, China, Libya, and North Korea." [1]

Keep in mind while this man is a conservative, he also specializes in this field, and would not deliberately make this up. De-Chomskidize 04:41, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)

We can be fairly certain that User:De-Chomskidize is a puppet of User:Trey Stone. —Seselwa 23:15, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Futher, he is using this sockpuppet to evade a block. See Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Trey Stone. WebLuis 05:15, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)

"Why in heaven's name did socialist bloc link to communist state?" Ask User:Trey Stone. On second thought, don't. —Seselwa 18:39, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC) gee, i don't know -- maybe cuz CUBA and NORTH KOREA are pretty goddamn Communist. in any case, i changed it. J. Parker Stone 01:04, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

He established relations at first to get funds for the civil war. He was for elections at first, but the conservative government went on a killing spree, so he joined the FMLN forces. Plus as you said n korea is pretty damn communist

If you have related info that shows supposed U.S. "meddling," show it rather than interjecting your own POV. J. Parker Stone 05:04, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

baseless claims

[edit]

I´d like to see a source for the claim of ARENA stating that the US would actually deport salvadorinas who live in the US since, the US did pronounce itself in the elections matter but did not suggest that the winning or losing of any party would have an impact on migratory issues and also the fact that if a salvadorian gets deported it´s because his inmigrant status is ilegal, not because their goverment is right or left wing.hjga 10:40, 09 Feb 2006

ARENA's attack was against a possible victory of the FMLN in the 2004 elections

[edit]

The US Government never said anything like it. In fact, ARENA's attack was against a possible victory of the FMLN and based its position on interventions of several other non-official government representatives such as Thomas Tancredo, a Congress man head of the Committee for Immigration Reform, Rose Likins, former US Ambassador in El Salvador, and Otto Reich, Bush's Special Envoy to El Salvador. They all spoke against a possible victory of the FMLN in El Salvador and the certain possibilities of its government being blocked by the U.S. affecting the money people send to their relatives in El Salvador. The source for this is El Diario de Hoy (february 2004)

North Korea is not communist and Handal did not seek to distance himself from the United States

[edit]

I have to laugh about the ignorance of some of the participants in this discussion concerning the nature of the government in North Korea.

One only needs to read Kim Il Sung's book On the Nature of the Juche Idea" to realize that North Korea is NOT communist.

The label "communist" was stuck by the propaganda machine of the Pentagon after the war in 1950 that divided the country in South and North. The South went to become a U.S. neocolony and the North went under the tutelage of the Soviet Union. Yes, Sung's regime received support from the Soviet Union, but this does not mean the regime was communist. The label "communist", mainly when it comes from the Pentagon or the U.S. State Department, means "our enemy", and not necessarily its ideology. This was clear and obvious when the Cold War was over: they (the U.S.) "upgraded" their old "communist" label to "terrorist" and even to "Rogue State". Now North Korea is "Terrorist" or a "Rogue State". Apart from the fact that I do not agree with the North Korean regime, I am clear about the B.S. nature of the Pentagon propaganda machine. I am not that gullible. Kapish?

Now, with respect Handal seeking to distance himself from the United States, this is a complete lie. Of course, Wikipedia says that the article does not provide sources, and they are right in that, but also this precise piece of information that I am talking about is false. In fact a have precise information complete with the source stating the oppossite, that Handal used to seek a "friendly and respectful" relationship with the U.S. This was during a meeting of world leaders in the Capitol building in 2004 while Handal was campaigning for the elections in El Salvador of that year. Handal has also been consistent in sticking to this position ever since he was General Secretary of the Communist Party. In one accusation by the State Department(1981) saying that he was bringing weapons from communist states and channeled through Cuba and Nicaragua. Handal responded in Mexico City (6 February)saying that "the PCS did not want future hostile relations with the United States (...)" I can add this information, but I do not want to be accused of vandalizing articles.

90%????

[edit]

This article states that the election of El Salvador in 2004 had a 90% turnout rate. The number is roughly 68%. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 76.173.43.100 (talk) 03:59, 15 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]
