P.B.S. Pinchback

[edit]

P.B.S. Pinchback was the first African American to hold the office of Governor in December 1872. Cmguy777 (talk) 02:25, 31 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No one cares. Wilder is significant historically because he is the first, post-Reconstruction African American elected governor of a U.S. state. 173.66.55.26 (talk) 23:34, 30 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

File:Douglas Wilder 2003 NIH.jpg seems to have a very light skin tone compared to https://web.archive.org/web/20121109034503im_/http://cdn.gretawire.foxnewsinsider.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Screen-Shot-2012-11-05-at-2.52.05-PM.png?9d7bd4 from https://web.archive.org/web/20121109034014/http://gretawire.foxnewsinsider.com/2012/11/05/stunner-nations-first-african-american-governor-decides-not-to-endorse-president-obama-for-president/

Does anyone understand why? Can lighting do that much? ScratchMarshall (talk) 07:16, 13 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

1989 election date

[edit]

The article states he was elected governor on November 8, 1989, but the election was held on November 7 according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virginia_gubernatorial_election,_1989. Any reason for the discrepancy? Thisdaytrivia (talk) 03:49, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Death penalty views

[edit]

The article gives conflicting statements about Wilder’s death penalty views. It says he is both supportive and opposed, and gives no citation for either of those views. Evanodell (talk) 23:10, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The article both says he supported and that he opposed it. What was his actual stance? Can someone find a reliable source? SecretName101 (talk) 04:34, 11 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
