Ferrovial

[edit]

I think the discussion on Ferrovial's operations and other holdings should be removed from this page, and placed in a separate Ferrovial entry. It really has nothing to do with Belfast City Airport.

Airport Rename in George Best's Memory

[edit]

There's no official statement about what the new airport name will be. The press releases [1] clearly state that the new name (and signage) will be announced on 22 May. The strongest rumour is "George Best Belfast City Airport" (to keep the Belfast in it). AMe 22:59, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

After the renaming today, shouldn't the article be moved to George Best Belfast City Airport similar to Liverpool John Lennon Airport? -Ablaze (talk) 15:25, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
with a link from Belfast City Airport back to it - yes. AMe 16:49, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Scotsman Source

[edit]

This source is about as relevant to Northern Ireland as the Himalaya Times has relevance to Congo. Can someone give something more sensible, like the Belfast Telegraph, or the BBC?martianlostinspace 14:38, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Irish Name

[edit]

Can someone provide a source that shows that Belfast City Airport has an Irish translation of it's name? I mean officially? If something has an official Irish name then fine. Ben W Bell talk 09:11, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have added the source thingy taken out by Blowdart. How can "George Best Belfast City Airport" magically translate without the "George Best" bit?

I don't want to get involved in the whole should it or shouldn't it be included, but: I drive past the airport twice a day 5 days a week and use it every month or so. I've never seen a road sign or a sign at the airport itself refer to it by the Irish translation of its name. Surely common usage should have something to do with the argument on this page? --Whoosher (talk) 20:32, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't care whether it has or hasn't an Irish name, but like every piece of information that goes into Wikipedia it has to be verifiable, see WP:Verify. People have asked for a source for this so it needs verified. It has previously been tagged for references and verification and it was never provided. So it should stay out until one can be provided. It was tagged for verification and one was never provided so under the rules of WP:VERIFY it was removed. And a user saying to search the Irish version of Wikipedia is missing the point, Wikipedia cannot be used for Wikipedia verification. A translation and an Irish name aren't the same thing. Also read a talk on the topic. Please don't add in again unless it can be verified by an appropriate source, just translating it isn't appropriate especially if the airport doesn't use an Irish name. Ben W Bell talk 20:52, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think there are two issues here. Firstly is an Irish translation of the airport commonly used? If not it should not appear on the page. Secondly, if the translation is commonly used (and hence belongs in the article) some source needs to be referenced (as stated above, where is the "George Best" bit of the proposed translation?). SempreVolando (talk) 17:41, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is common knowledge that no place names in Northern Ireland have the Irish langauge forms of their names recognised. Oficially placenames are in English only. This however doesn't stop people using Béal Feirste, Cúil Raithin, or Ard Mhacha. This too extends to the names of airports, and other geographical entities. As someone who regularly listens to/reads/watches the news in Irish, I can state that beyond any shadow of a doubt that the Irish name given is the name always given. I have heard this from both RTÉ and the BBC, as well as many other media outlets. I can't provide any references to this, but I hear it EVERY time reference is made to the airport. For example, if there is a delay on the AerArann service from this airpot to Cork, then RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta would say go bhfuil mall ar sheirbhísí eitilte ar maidin in Aerfort Chorcaí, agus de réir chosúlachta ní bheidh an ghnáthsheirbhís go hAerfort Cathair Bhéal Feirste curtha thar n-ais go dtína deich a' chlog or something along those lines. The only thing I could suggest is that you access this information, however this would probably be of little help, as I presume that the majority of people reading this cannot understand Irish. Among Irish speakers themselves, it is the common term used. CCEA has used it on [page 7 http://www.rewardinglearning.org.uk/docs/curriculum/transfer/tt_pci22.pdf] of this practise paper for the 11+/Transfer Test. In similarity with English, the "George Best" part of the official titile is more often than not ommitted in every day speach. In relation to airport signs in Irish - again, it is common knowledge that it is not current public policy in Northern Ireland to erect bilingual signage, wherever it may be - their are few exceptions to this rule (eg. Newry & Mourne District Council). In a nutshell, the Irish term is used whenever one refers to the airport in Irish (irrelavent of how often that occurs). And, whilst it is not official, no placenames in Northern Ireland are offically recognised in Irish - that doesn't mean that Béal Feirste should be taken down from the Belfast Wikipedia article. D.de.loinsigh (talk) 22:43, 21 April 2008

The whole debate about Irish names being magiced up has to be addressed. The english names of towns are generally derived from the Irish, therefore it is both useful and generally verifiable to have the place name in Irish. In this instance, there is no verification and no common use test.Traditional unionist (talk) 11:39, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

BA Engineering at BHD

[edit]

Would it be useful to provide information about BA Connect closing their engineering base at BHD?

Overlinking?

[edit]

Is the article overlinked? The first pagragraph contains 11 links, which in my opinion is quite high considering its word count. Do I have a good argument, or am I just crazy? Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 22:16, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, it should have 12, as 1983 should be linked ;) You're not crazy, but it's not hurting anything. -- Dragonbeast 00:45, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Royal Naval Air Yard?

[edit]

Wasn't this a Royal Naval Air Yard post-war until the mid-70's? A friend of mine saw a lot of Buccaneers, Sea Vixens and other assorted RN aircraft using the facilities there.Starviking (talk) 11:36, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Manx2 accident at Cork

[edit]

This accident, which involved an aircraft originating from Belfast City has it's own article and is detailed sufficiently in the Cork Airport article, as this was the location of the accident. There is no reason in my view to add details of the accident on this page. For example, the Kegworth air disaster is not mentioned on the London Heathrow Airport page; nor is Afriqiyah Airways Flight 771 mentioned on the OR Tambo International Airport page, etc...

Aircraft accidents and incident details on airport pages should be confined to the airport of occurrence, otherwise Wikipedia will become cluttered with repetition of such events in unnecessary places. Any comments? Thanks. SempreVolando (talk) 17:09, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Agree not needed here. MilborneOne (talk) 17:20, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Agree, the accident did not occur for any reason because of Belfast City Airport. Not required. --NorthernCounties (talk) 17:51, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Are you nuts? The incident originated form Belfast there were questions about that it should not have taken off from Belfast it SHOULD be included — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.97.111.246 (talk) 17:34, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

wrong stats

[edit]

Hi I believe that the statistics about the percentages of passangers for domestic and international routes are completly misleading please check this pdf from the CAA for the actual information http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/80/airport_data/201201/Table_12_2_Domestic_Air_Pax_Traffic_Route_Analysis.pdf — Preceding unsigned comment added by 5.151.130.10 (talk) 10:23, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

References for charter flights

[edit]

If you find any references for charter flights operating at BHD please add them as it can be hard to find out if charters are still running. Please remove any charters that are no longer running. Thanks, Vg31-irl (talk) 15:31, 24 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
