Paulo Soares da Rocha (22 December 1935 – 29 December 2012)[1] was a Portuguese film director. Among his best-known films are A Ilha dos Amores and O Rio do Ouro. A Ilha dos Amores was entered into the 1982 Cannes Film Festival,[2] O Desejado was entered into the main competition at the 44th edition of the Venice Film Festival,[3] and O Rio do Ouro was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1998 Festival.[4]
